May 5, 2014

This week has been soooo crazy and so miraculous! I loved every minute of it! so Monday after we emailed we did our grocery shopping and not much else! we had dinner that night with some members who have 4 adorable little boys and one girl on the way! we talked to them about their missions and learned a lot from them! after that we went to a lesson with this guy we met a few weeks back. His wife told us to stop coming over and that they weren't interested so that was sad! we then went to check on a few more people that we met a few weeks ago and as we were walking down the street in the pouring rain this guy opened his door and was like "hey! what are you guys doing out in this awful weather?!" we talked to him for awhile and the elders are going to go back and check on him soon! We ended the night having a member lesson. The members we taught live next to the lady we met last week who has the "lady of the night" living in her home and the mom told us not to go back there because she thinks it isn't very safe for us. so we'll take her advice! Tuesday was pretty insane!! We had district meeting in the morning and on our way home we decided to check on Luis. Miracle of miracles: he was home!! we had a lesson with him and he told us he finished the book of Mormon but he didn't feel the spirit at all when he read. that was discouraging to hear so we just spent a lot of time this week trying to figure out why that could be! we also decided to try and convince him to read it in Spanish and see if that makes any difference! but he was still super excited to see us and he wants to learn. He just has a lot of learning left to do! So after that we met with Valeria. our lessons with her have been getting better and better so that's really exciting! After that we finished studying and then headed to Kingstown which is right by Alexandria to have a lesson in Portuguese! these 2 ladies are named Yonanda and Tabitha. They are both from Sao Paulo and they are both so sweet! It was such an amazing opportunity to get to teach in Portuguese! It is scary and frustrating because I really can't fully express myself, but I still really loved it. We went to the Hills right after that for dinner. They are the Brazilian family we met a few weeks ago that we are trying to teach. I don't think they really knew what to expect but I think the lesson went pretty well. we had really awesome conversations and we shared the video because of Him and they really enjoyed it. Silvana, the wife, is a lot more interested than her husband but they are both awesome. We are really hoping to get her together with sister Koford, the Brazilian ward member, so that she will realize how her life could be with the gospel. That night we got the sad news that sister Martindale would be transferred on Thursday! It was pretty shocking because we didn't think president would leave 2 visa waiters together but it's great to have one more transfer to practice Portuguese together! Wednesday was even crazier than Tuesday! We spent a lot of time prepping Sister Martindale for her move. but we had an amazing miracle happen! we had another lesson with Pedro, our Portuguese speaking friend in Russia. so we went to sister Kofords and she helped us teach him and it was seriously so perfect! The lesson started off by him telling us he wants to be baptized! Then sister koford shared her conversion story with him and it helped him see that it really is possible for him to change. That was amazing! then we helped set up a room for Mormon prom which was fun. We stopped by the Stoupas that night so Sister Martindale could say bye. that night we got a call from one of the assistants telling us that me and sister Egbert needed to come to the mission home on Friday morning at 5 AM to pick up our third companion. He said that her companion was going home for health reasons so I was pretty positive it would be sister Wilcox! Thursday we went to transfers and it was an amazing meeting! There was 16 missionaries who went home and they all bore really powerful testimonies! there was tons of change done in our mission as well. Only like 60 missionaries weren't effected by the transfer. but they created 2 Spanish zones and a new Alexandria zone and got rid of the Arlington zone. President talked a lot about change and how we need to choose if we are going to let change teach us and strengthen us or not and that was something I really needed to hear! It was fun to be in a regular companionship with sister Egbert for a day! We helped a ward member move all her stuff into her kitchen so her house could be recarpeted and then we had a correlation with the ward mission leader! Friday we got up at 4 so we could go get our new companion by 5 at the mission home! as i expected it was sister Wilcox. it was sad to see sister Phelps go home but I am glad she will be getting all healed up! We found out that sister Wilcox will possibly only be staying with us for a couple days or maybe a week because the bishop in Franconia ward really wants to have sisters in that ward, so he's trying to call members to be sister Wilcox's temporary companions in franconia...so we will see what happens! it was nice. I felt very at peace about the change and I'd really been praying to feel that it was all right and that's exactly how i feel about it! We had weekly planning on Friday and then we had dinner at the Kofords! we had the coolest miracle happen there! so one of their neighbors kids just walked into the house and wanted to play and then her dad followed her in and was kind of like "sorry I'll get her out!" But sister Koford was like "no let her play and you can come talk with us!" The daughter has some special needs and so he's extra protective of her and just wanted to be there while she played. He was kind of hesitant to talk to us at first but he had all these awesome questions and he really opened up by the end. hHe asked us if we really don't drink alcohol and we ended up explaining the word of wisdom to him which was awesome! Sister Koford and him exchanged information so they can have play dates with their kids and then we gave him a mormon.org card! Sister Koford is such a great neighbor and great person so we are sure that from here on out he will be learning a lot more about the gospel! Saturday was another miraculous day! during lunch we got a call from the Russian missionaries asking us to help them teach Pedro in twenty minutes. So we rushed to the church and had a great lesson with him! We didn't actually teach very much that day but it was still fun! After that we took Sis Wilcox to go meet our ward mission leader. then we decided to check on Luis again! We had the best lesson EVER!!! We talked to him about the spirit and we were just asking him a lot of questions trying to figure out why he didn't feel the spirit when he read the book of Mormon. We were eventually able to figure out that he thought the book of Mormon and the bible were the same books trying to tell the same stories! We explained to him that they have one purpose but they are different stories and all that and he was like "oooooh! now i get it!" So we challenged him to read it again and he agreed!!!! We also talked about prayer because he says the lord's prayer and we were sharing with him that prayer can be a conversation with God and we can be open with him and at first he didn't want to try it out but he eventually said he would try it for this week! He also told us this cool experience he had when he was praying once. He was at a really low point in his life and he was praying and he said he just felt someone come and put their hand on his head and comfort him. When he opened his eyes no one was there! It was crazy and I felt the spirit so strong when he told us that! Luis is so prepared and I'm excited to see how his reading and praying goes this week! he is so funny because he has these nicknames for us based on how we teach. so sister Egbert is his teacher because she wagged her finger at him once. He calls me his heart because he said I'm bold and tell him what to do haha. And Sister Wilcox is his soul apparently hahhaa! he is such a hoot. I want you guys to meet him someday! So after that lesson Sister Thompson came up to Vienna and took us out to dinner. She had signed up to feed the sisters in Alexandria and so she decided to just feed us since there are none there! It was great to see her again! Then we went and checked out Mormon prom before it started. You wouldn't believe how intense this dance was! They went all out on the decorations. I'll send you some pictures! after that we went and saw the Clark's. we talked to the son and had a great visit. it's been a hard week for them because the anniversary of his dads death is this upcoming Saturday. we talked about the plan of salvation and about prayer. I love the Clark's and want to do all i can to help them come to church! Sunday was super awesome! Sadly Luis didn't come to church, but sister McLeod came!!! it was sooo exciting! she's been saying for awhile that she'd come but now she finally did!!! best day ever!! Sunday afternoon we checked on brother Harris, another one of our friends we have not seen out to church for a while. Then we had dinner at the Adams. they are such a fun family! Their daughter Adalina is the most hyper, cutest, child i have ever met!! she is just so happy all the time and she says the funniest things! She did a concert for us and she sang a bunch of primary songs. It was so adorable! Also they made us the best ice cream ever which was sugar free! they used coconut milk, strawberries, and dates to sweeten it! they are gluten free as well so if David ever needs recipes, i can ask them for some! they are good cooks! we then visited Ermie, our friend from the Philippines! she is such a sweet lady! we read from the book of Mormon with her. we then met two of the coolest African guys EVER! the first was named Michelle. he grew up in Cameroon and he didnt' have much time to talk but we get to teach him later this week! then we met Taure. he is really amazing! he grew up in the Muslim part of Africa but he converted to Christianity in his teens. he had a bunch of crazy dreams that led him to convert and he is just a really awesome guy! I'm so excited to see what happens with those two!! I am so excited to skype!! i love you all sooo much! love, Sister Pehrson

May 26, 2014

It is so good to be writing to you again!! this week was so amazing so I'm super excited to tell you all about it! :) Monday was so much fun! we went to a park near our house and just played around for an hour or so. They had a cool trail so we walked around and it was nice to just relax! it was great because you guys know how much i love nature! haha but once preparation day ended we tried a few people who weren't home and then we had a lesson with a family who was a referral from a ward member. They came to our ward members house and we had a bbq and FHE. It was definitely nerve wracking to teach a lesson in a members home to a referral but it went really amazing! We taught about the plan of salvation. the members have a big chalkboard in their backyard so we had the kids draw pictures on it for us! the friend, Ashley, and her husband talked to us a lot after. They are expecting their third baby and Ashley just kept talking about how much she loves the churches emphasis on families so we're excited to see what will happen with them in the future! The member texted us after and said it went perfect so we were very relieved! It's so much fun to work with the members and teach in their homes!! Tuesday was super great! We had zone and district meetings and we talked about following up with the members. We have been leaving them tons of commitments but it's been hard to follow up with them and see how they are actually doing on keeping their commitments! We got lots of good advice and are now working on doing a better job at our follow up!! After our meetings we went to the mission office so sister Egbert could get her finger print paper work. After that we went to do FB but ended up talking to our neighbor for a really long time. She's from Russia and is trying to learn English so we're trying to get some ward members who speak Russian to help her. She wants to learn about the church but her husband doesn't want her to. He seems to be softening up to us a lot though!! After that we went and ate dinner with a family and afterwards went to an appointment. We had such an amazing lesson with them!! We had challenged them to read out of preach my gospel and they told us that they hadn't done it. We talked about all the blessings that come from reading out of preach my gospel and they told us a lot of the concerns that they have and we just promised them that as they studied and prayed to God that they would find answers to all their questions. It was really powerful and they promised that they would study preach my gospel before the next time we come over, but if they don't we can study it with them. They are such a cute couple and kind of remind me of grandma and grandpa Brown so of course I love them! :) Wednesday was wonderful! After studies we had to go get fingerprints done for Sis Egbert and had a lot of little complications but we eventually got it all figured out! After that we went and did FB and then visited a ward member. she's in her 80s and is getting ready to move into a nursing home, so she needs some service done to get her house ready to sell. we had a really nice visit with her! her husband passed away about a year ago and he was kind of a big deal in the CIA. so you know that movie Argo that came out awhile ago? well he worked for the CIA when all that was happening and he was a graphic designer so he designed the logo for the fake film company that got the group into whatever country the people were in to rescue the Americans. I don't know if that made sense but i thought it was pretty cool! A huge miracle happened while we were there though! Her daughter was at her house that day and we got to meet her and we had a great conversation, so we're super excited to be able to visit with her now!! That night we had a lesson with one of our members. he works for the government and last weekend he was in Miami protecting Prince Harry...NBD (no big deal). haha! But right before we started the lesson one of their old friends showed up so we ended up having to leave. Then we went to check on Luis Chica but he wasn't home so we left him a note on his door. We were feeling pretty discouraged because of that and we only had like 20 minutes left before we needed to go home and we decided to go check on this lady we met last week named Sadia. she is SO amazing!!! She was really excited to see us again and had so many amazing questions! She's from Pakistan and is so prepared! After our visit she ended up inviting us to come back on Sunday! Thursday was so great! after studies we decided to go visit our investigator Ellen. she's the one with the 2 teenage daughters and she's going through a really hard time right now. We walked with her and her little chihuahua Jorge. We had a really nice visit with her and she opened up to us a lot. she told us it was her daughters birthday, so later that night we brought back some nail polish and a card and doorbell ditched it! After seeing Ellen we had our Portuguese practice with Valerie which is always exciting! after that we visited our friend Louise. she's in her 80s and we talked to her about coming back and doing some service. she is so cute! When we left she hugged us and gave us big wet sloppy grandma kisses and said "love you!" haha i think she has adopted us as her granddaughters. We went and had a lesson with one of our ward members who served his mission in Portugal that night and it was a lot of fun! He has 2 really cute kids with LOTS of energy so we had fun! We also found out he used to coach BYU rugby which is pretty cool! Friday was a really great day! We had weekly planning and then went and tried to visit our friends Ermie and sheila who couldn't meet with us until the next day. After that we saw the a family we haven't been able to get in contact with for awhile! We were starting to get pretty worried but we had a really great visit. The wife told us her embarrassing moment of the week which was that she went out to go sweep her porch and after a while she heard her neighbor yelling her name. She looked and her neighbor told her she had tucked her dress into her underwear hahaha! Then we talked about the book of Mormon. she said "believe it or not I've read the whole thing!" she had a bishop who challenged her to and she felt like he didn't think she would so she read it. she's such a hoot! we're trying to get her to read it again so we'll see what happens!! that night we did a lot of street contacting with not too much success until we met this super amazing girl! Her grandparents are serving a mission in New Zealand right now! she's really open and really wants us to come back and see her again so that was pretty cool! there's a memorial day festival called viva Vienna here in Vienna that's been going all weekend so we are going today and hope to see her there! Saturday was exhausting and soo amazing! in the morning we went to a stake activity called gifts of the heart. all the members donate old clothes and stuff and the whole stake center is basically transformed into a thrift store. then people in the community come and are able to get the stuff for free! it was a mad house!! there were so many people there and we had such a blast! after that we went to viva Vienna because some members were supposed to have a booth up but i guess it fell through so we walked around the outskirts instead and handed out some flyers for a church tour. We then went to one of our members houses whose daughter was having a birthday party. It was "frozen" theme and was definitely the funnest, most unique dinner appointment I've had on my mission! We got to the appt a little early so we walked around to try and talk to some people and met the kindest Chinese woman! She talked to us about a former sutdent she had who was Mormon and how if she hadn't been baptized Methodist she would have joined our church. She told us to send missionaries to her daughter who lives in another town near by who is going through a really hard time so we're excited to see what happens there!! After dinner we stopped and saw Ermie and Sheila. Ermie is a member and Sheila is her daughter in law who is not a member. Things were going awesome and then Sheila had to leave the room to take care of her son so we couldn't teach anymore! We're working on getting Sheila some friends in the ward. after that we went and saw Jean Pierre. we drove by and he was out in his yard so we threw on our service clothes and went to help him. by that time he was already getting ready to quit but he was so excited to see us! he said "i am really so impwessed with you girls!" (said in a french accent) he is so adorable and we are excited to help him out! i don't think he believed that we really wanted to help him until he saw us show up like that. it was really cool! we had an awesome talk with him too and he told us even more amazing things about his life! he has done some really cool things with some pretty amazing people so it's interesting to see that his life has ended up just like anyone else's. it makes me realize what things are truly important in life!! Sunday was another crazy exciting day! we had the McLeod's at church again!!!! this is week 3 of them coming!!! we are sooo excited! Church was really awesome and the couple that spoke invited four families to come hear them and one of them came so we got to meet them which was exciting! After church we went and handed out more flyers for the church tour and talked to some really great people! After that we headed to a lesson in a members home with an investigator that we found that is a long lost friend of theirs! the friend texted and told her she wouldn't be able to come until six but we had an appt at 630 with Sadia so we went and saw her real quick and had a great lesson! she told us she's starting her semester of school so she's not sure how much she can see us but she wants to keep learning. Her boyfriend came in the middle of our talk and he's from India. We had a really great lesson with them and the boyfriend had a lot of his questions answered which was exciting! After that we rushed back to our other lesson and it went so well! We again taught the plan of salvation and we had the kids draw it with sidewalk chalk on the driveway and they loved that. The investigator, Clarice, had tons of questions and really loved the lesson! after that we stopped by our investigator Alicia's house to check on her and had a nice lesson with her as well. I felt like an official missionary this week as my feet smelled horrible every night when i took my shoes off AND i had to use superglue to fix my shoe!! there's no better feeling than wearing out your shoes and coming home completely exhausted at the end of the night! i love you guys so so much and think about you lots and am grateful for all you sacrifice to help me be out here! It inspires me to keep working hard no matter what happens and reminds me of why I want to share the gospel with people! love love love you!!!! Sister Pehrson

May 19, 2014

Family!! Wow I can't believe it was just a week ago we were skyping! I hope you're all still doing great! This week was so awesome!! I got to meet an apostle and see lots of incredible miracles happen!! So last p day was a little different because we had a lesson! We taught Pedro in Russia over Skype! It was super great! We went to Sister Koford's and we taught him the word of wisdom. Sister Koford was raised in another faith so she grew up drinking coffee and so she was able to show Pedro that he can obey the word of wisdom! It was a really amazing lesson! After that she fed us lunch and then she told us about this grocery store we should try out. We ended up going to the wrong one. It was the same store just a sketchier version. It's an Asian market so the produce is really cheap and it was fun to see all the crazy foods they had! We really only had time to do our shopping and then we had dinner with a cute member family. We then did some tracting and met a really cool guy named Joe! His son goes to school in Utah so he knows lots about Mormons and was really excited to talk with us. We had parked our car and walked around this neighborhood talking to people and it all of a sudden began dumping rain! We couldn't find out car for like 30 minutes so we were drenched and it was so much fun!! After that we went and visited a member who doesn't come to church very much. She's pregnant and is a really cute lady. We had a nice visit and then went to bishops to have correlation. On Tuesday we had our regular meetings and they were all about working with members. When it was on that topic it made me and sister Egbert realize we need to do a better job at that so that's what we focused on more this week! After the meetings and some studies we went and saw Valerie. She read a book out loud to us so she could practice her English and she then suggested we bring a book to read in Portuguese next time! So we brought the Liahona with us the next time and read conference talks! It was really awesome because she isn't fond of us teaching her the gospel, she just wants to hear English and teach us Portuguese. But she made it so we can now share the gospel with her!! :) after that we headed to one of our ward members homes. She had called us earlier in the week telling us about a friend she wanted us to tract into. We went and talked to the member and suggested instead of us tracting into her she invites her friend to a family home evening. She really liked the idea because then it seems way more casual than just asking her friend to come over for a lesson. Family home evening is something that happens weekly so it's way more normal and less scary for people to come to! So she agreed to invite her friend and tell us how it goes! After that we did FB and then had dinner and a lesson with the Kofords. We drew the plan of salvation in chalk on their driveway with their kids. It was so much fun! We then had them teach us the lesson. Two of their daughters put our name tags on and taught us it was so cute! After that we had another member lesson with this really cute young couple in the ward! We hadn't talked to them much before that lesson but we realized how amazing and fun they are which is always great because now we have 2 more people we can bring out with us! At the end of the lesson the husband got kind of emotional and was like "I'm so glad you sisters came over and invited us to study out of preach my gospel. Thank you for preparing and teaching us. We needed this!" It was cool because I've never had a member react like that to a lesson and it made me realize that working with members is so important! So these members live in a lock out apartment complex so you can't get in without a code. Well one of our less active members also lives there so we decided to try and see her while we were there. We found her building and couldn't get in at first so we prayed and then this kid just walks up and is like "hey do you need let in?" We were like YES!!!!! it was sooo cool! Unfortunately the lady wasn't home so we went to go find out car in the parking garage and somehow got locked out of the garage. We didn't know how we would get back in to get our car so we prayed again and then sister Egbert walked up to this door that totally looked locked. It's the kind that locks from the inside but she just pulled on it and it opened!!!! It was really pretty miraculous! Wednesday was a really hard day but also amazing! No one was home and we were a little discouraged by that. Then we were driving and we were on a road that is under construction. I wasn't paying enough attention and didn't see a sign that said bump so we hit this bump pretty hard. After that our car started making weird noises like something was dying and we couldn't figure out what was wrong. So what did we do? WE PRAYED!! :) and as soon as we started driving again the car didn't make a peep! Heavenly Father is the best mechanic! The rest of our day was filled with little success until at the end of the night we prayed to meet someone prepared. We started taking to this guy and he wasn't interested at all no matter what we said. We kept looking and went around the corner and met a sweet lady named Sadia who told us she wants us to come back and see her! I think Heavenly Father wants me to learn that he does answer prayers! Thursday was soo great!! We saw Valerie and read the liahona with her. It's hilarious when Valerie reads to us because when she reads a lot of words in English correctly she gets so excited and she's like "I AM SO GOOD AT ENGLISH! LISTEN TO ME I AM SPEAKING LIKE BILL CLINTON! I AM SPEAKING LIKE BILL CLINTON! DO YOU HEAR ME??" Hahahha she is a hoot and a half! After that lesson we went and correlated with the member who invited her friend over for FHE. The friend said yes so we made plans for what we want to teach and how long and everything. The lesson is tonight so we are super excited!! After that we went and saw a ward member who just had a baby. We are going to start visiting her more regularly! From there we had dinner with some ward members, the Adams. They are so much fun! We had a really awesome time and at the end of our lesson sister Adams just burst into tears and told us how glad she is that we came and how grateful she is that we're good missionaries and all this stuff. It made sister Egbert and I cry because we look up to sister Adams a ton! It was really really special. After that we stopped by our investigator Jean Pierre's house. He's been taught by missionaries for awhile now. The missionaries in another ward were teaching him til they realized he's in our ward. so we took over. We had the coolest lesson that night though! He's a mad genius and so we had probably the weirdest, deepest lesson I've ever taught on my mission haha. But it was awesome because at the end he was like "I'm finally convinced to read the book! Everyone else just told me to read it and get baptized but now I really want to read it because of what you told me!" Haha it was sooo awesome! After that we taught our other investigator Alicia. Her husband is a member but doesn't come much due to work. Alicia is a tough egg to crack. She always changes the subject when we try to teach and talks about all the pictures she has on her wall and stuff. So we are trying to teach her in a members home! Friday was awesome! We did weekly planning and then visited with a recent convert in our ward. Her name is Chitra and she's an older Indian woman. She wears he same hat, windbreaker, and sunglasses every day! She is really sweet and we had a great visit with her. After that we ate and then went and talked to a really nice lady we meet last week NAMED PAM!!! Of course I love her because anyone named Pam is just destined to be amazing! She's such a nice lady though she Is pretty strong in her own faith she accepted the Book of Mormon and lives by Mormons so she's in a pretty good spot right now! After that we stopped and told her neighbors we had seen her so they could work their magic and then we went and met the smiths. They are ward members we haven't gotten to know well yet. They are geniuses and the dad is a filmmaker for cnn or something and has met the pope. He's got lots of stories...but he's sweet! Their son will be coming home from BYU soon and then going on a mission so when he gets home we're going to practice the preach my gospel lessons with him! Saturday was soooooo cool! I got to meet elder Ballard! We didn't get handshakes but we still had such an awesome time hearing from him! He is so powerful and shared soo many things that I felt I needed to hear. He talked a lot about simplicity and keeping our lessons simple. He also talked about being ourselves because people want to be around REAL people, not robots! It's funny because everything he said was like "oh ya no duh I should be doing that!" But I haven't been doing it so I need to! One thing is literally talking to everyone! I try to but there are still times when I pass by people because it would be awkward to talk to them or what ever. But he said that even on our p days we need to talk to the cashiers and different people we meet! So I am going to do better at that because that's how we find people! Hearing him speak just reminded me of why I'm out here and made me want to keep being better! I am so grateful to be on a mission and have opportunities like I did to meet elder Ballard. Because I wouldn't have had that if I wasn't out here! Thank goodness God had better plans for me than I had for myself :) so after the conference we had an appointment with Krista and Chelsea, the mom and the Down syndrome daughter. We were scared because we were super late due to traffic and we didn't even stop and eat or anything we just rushed to their house and at first Krista was kinda mad but she softened up and we had an incredible lesson! Then we had a member lesson with the relief society president and her family and also the kids of a member who just had a new baby. So we had 7 little boys we were teaching! They were soooo rambunctious and it was a blast! We taught them the Ten Commandments using this really cool way to remember with your hands. They loved it! Afterwards we talked with our relief society president for a bit. She's so amazing! She's a young mom of 3 kids and yet she serves every one around her and is so full of love! She's amazing! Sunday was awesome! The McLeod's came to church AGAIN!!! This is he third week in a row! I am so excited for them! Church was amazing and then we ate with some members and them had a lesson in Portuguese! It was in Centreville with sister Martindales investigator! It was so fun! His name is Rodrigo and he is so prepared. It's really cool that president gave us permission to teach anyone anywhere in Portuguese! Definitely a blessing! After that we came home and then visited a ward member. She's sweet. Then we met some really cool people who we will hopefully start teaching! So visa updates: sister Egbert was informed Saturday that she has to redo all her fingerprints because they are required to do new ones every six weeks! I am hoping that will not be the case for mine! Love you guys tons and tons! I am sooo grateful for you all and hope you have a fabulous week! Love, Sista Pehrson

April 28, 2014

Hey guys!! Is it just me or did is Monday come super fast!? This was the last week of the transfer and it seriously flew by! We are hoping to stay in this trio another transfer but we will see what happens! This week was so much fun and so full of miracles! Monday was so awesome! After emailing we went to Great Falls which is a National Park about 20 minutes away. It was so beautiful and so fun to be out enjoying nature! You know how I love nature haha :) I saw a GIANT copperhead snake, but I enjoyed every other part of the trip! I forgot my flats to wear with my skirt so I got to sport that lovely ensemble Monday evening to the post office and the grocery store... it was humbling haha! We tracted that night and everyone we talked to was so kind! We gave away 2 book of Mormons and met some really incredible people! Tuesday was another great day. We had zone and district meetings which are always great. We were supposed to have a Skype lesson, but it fell through so we went and met with Valerie for Portuguese practice. We really enjoyed our visit! After dinner we decided to check on this lady named Diana that an elder who used to serve here told us about. He only knew her name and that she lived by one of our ward members. So we went by that members house and tracted. We knocked one door and then the next door on the right had their door open and we thought "let's save it for last and do the house on the right." But then Sister Martindale felt like we needed to go to the open door. We did and Diana was there! Coolest thing ever! She's a really sweet old lady and we left her with a Book of Mormon and she said to come back another time. We decided to keep tracting so we knocked on her next door neighbors house. This lady came out and told us she saw us at Diana's and that we shouldn't go back because she rents out rooms in her house and right now and it may not be safe. We were really shocked and so we decided to go ask the ward member about it. We talked to him and he said that we should be fine going by in the day and just to pray about it and probably bring a member with us. But we all felt like we were really led to Diana so we will see what happens! That night we went to do a member lesson and had some time before so we knocked doors. It is a really nice neighborhood so we weren't expecting much but then we met this adorable old lady named Ada whose husband is a pastor for another church. They were so sweet and we will definitely be visiting them again! The members we taught are an older couple and at the end of the lesson the wife was like "I think I'd get baptized if I was taught by sisters!" Haha Wednesday we had lunch with our Brasillian ward member! Then we went and checked on this guy that some other sisters in our mission told us about. He is from Switzerland and is such a cool guy! He only has one hand and he was an engineer and has all these cool stories from world war 2. He is going to be really busy so he said not to visit him again until the fall but we'll probably try back in a couple weeks. After dinner we has an awesome lesson with our investigator Alicia. She is married to Ed who got baptized 2 years ago but isn't really active anymore. We've been trying to get in touch with her for weeks and then all of a sudden on Tuesday she texted us telling us to come over the next night. So we did and we had an amazing lesson! She's been through so much and it was a great reminder to me that everyone suffers at times and needs our love! On Thursday we were out tracting and we ran into this older lady who we met a few weeks ago tracting! We had sung a song for her and had a really good visit. She was out in her yard so we decided to help her pull weeds. After that she gave us a tour of her house and told us to come back soon! I think we have been adopted as grandkids :) we had dinner with a really cute family in the ward that night! They have 4 boys and 1 girl and they kept us very entertained. But after that we had a lesson with a Brasillian family we met awhile ago. We went to their house and they weren't there so we decided to wait awhile. The husband came home and told us that they were with friends so to try another time. It was a bummer but we will get them another time! We spent the rest of the evening at an apartment complex talking to everyone who walked past us! Friday was so awesome! After weekly planning the first person we saw was sister Clark. We had a good talk with her about prayer. After dinner we had such an amazing lesson with this family that a ward member referred us to. They have lived around Mormons for awhile now and have lots of Mormon friends. We were all a little nervous since the dad had been hesitant to let us come teach but the lesson was really incredible! The whole family had awesome questions and the spirit was so strong! We were able to clear up a lot of misconceptions they had too so that was awesome! They are so prepared and I'm sooo excited to see what happens with them in the future :) also another fun fact about Friday: both of my pinkie toe nails fell off! Oh The life of a sister.... Saturday was super great! We had a stake relief society meeting in the morning which was awesome! It was all about humanitarian work and it made me want to leave the country soo bad haha! But there is also tons we can do here to serve others so I'll work on that first :) after the conference and studies we went and saw Chelsea and Krista. Krista is from Whidbey Island! Her daughter Chelsea has Down Syndrome. They are the cutest family ever! Chelsea is going to a spring dance soon and she tried on her dress for us and kept twirling around. It was adorable! Krista is an awesome mom! They gave us a bunch of nail polish and flowers when we left, it was so sweet! After dinner we saw Brother McLeod. We shared the because of him video and it was really awesome! After that we brought cookies to a lady we met a few weeks ago and met her husband! They know tons of members and The Lord is really preparingthem. They just don't know it yet :) Rrom there we went and checked on some people we met a few weeks ago. We stopped by the British families house and the husband answered and said they just got home from the hospital and found out the wife has cancer, kidney failure, and blood clots. It was so sad. He said to just keep them in our prayers. Form there we went to invite Alicia to church but she wasn't home. As we were waking to the car we started talking to this guy named Jim. He told us his whole life story basically! He is from the Philippines and he had his own business until a big company bought it out and he lost his job. Right after that his wife divorced him. Then he was at Home Depot but he got a DUI and lost that job. Now he works at Walgreen's and is just really lonely. It's so sad! But I know we were led to him for a reason and we told him that and that we will help him! It's cool to see who god puts in our path every day! Sunday was great! We talked to Luis Wednesday but he didn't come to church :( church was still great though! After church we had a lesson with this family from West Africa. It turns out that the mom knows some members of our ward super well and she has come to church with them but they moved and she lost contact. Well they are back now so we have her their number! We had a great lesson with them and the daughter seems especially interested. After that we went and talked with a ton of people we met a few weeks ago. Their neighborhood was having a garden show so we walked through and talked to the people we had met before! It was so beautiful! After dinner we were checking on some people and met a lot of great people as we walked around the apartment complex. There were Chinese and Spanish speaking people so we have to give them to other missionaries but we are all on the same team so it's okay! We also had a great member lesson that night! We found out this morning that in a few weeks we are having a THREE MISSION conference and Elder Ballard is coming! I'm sooo excited! This mission is the best! Love you guys tons! Miss ya like crazy!! Love, Sister Pehrson
